carburetor pcv system
I bought a new carb yesterday, and i want to fix my pcv problems (i think it's clogged causing it to blow oil through rear main seal). I've read a lot, but can't figure out if most of it is relating to just efi. Right now it's set up so the passenger side valve cover has a tube connected to the air cleaner assembly, and the driver side has a pcv valve going to the carb.
My question- Should I replace the pcv valve and line on the driver side, and put a breather on the passenger side? Can these be switched around without problems (breather on driver side, pcv on passenger side)?

RE: carburetor pcv system
no they can not be switched, the pcv needs to be on the driver side because the driver side produces positive atmospheric(sp) pressure and the passenger side has no positive or negative pressure, and yes you should keep the line on the passenger side to the aircleaner or you will at a minimum get dirty valve covers around the cap. and no it will not hurt anything to put on a new pcv valve and tube, but to see if they are still good shake the pcv and if you hear a rattling sound then it is still good and if you can blow threw the tube then that is still good too. hope this helps

Actually that doesn't help much, it just confuses me. What does it matter if the line is hooked to the air cleaner or not? Also, if it mattered that much, why do some people just run two breathers? I was talking to hackgt350, and his is set-up with the pcv on the passenger side...

My bad.... ....you could use either side and have an open breather or a closed breather with the breather hose to the air filter.....one very inportant detail though, both side VC's need to have the baffles installed to prevent oil from dripping to the outside or being sucked into the intake by the PCV valve. I've had a PCV on the driver side and an open breather on the passenger for yrs. (15 to be exact)......no problems so far.

Breather w/filter on driver side, pcv valve w/ a hose to the carb on passenger side. And I already have baffles in my valve covers I believe (can't see rockers).
