RE: about to install my new fuel pump
Put it up on jack stands as high as you can.
Remove filler tube bolts(3 around fill hole)
remove one bolt from fill tube at the tank...it hold the tube in place.
put jack under tank
remove 2 bolts on the straps, then remove the pins from the other side and remove straps completely
lower tank about 6", remove vent tube
lower another few inches, remove fuel lines and unplug electrical.
pull take out from under car
cover all holes
spay the pickup clamp/ring with wd40, let it soak 10 minuets and then blow it off with air
remove ring
remove pick/pump assembly

ORIGINAL: grumpyphillips
Don't use a screwdriver or anything else that could spark to get that retaining ring off.

RE: about to install my new fuel pump
also why would it spark if the battery is disconnected?
so i guess im doing it tomorrow morning instead cuz my friend didnt come over early enough (got dark) and i only have one arm, currently, and a bruised tailbone so it could be a little difficult by myself..

It could spark from the impact of a screw driving into another piece of steel. I doubt you'd be able to make it spark but I always use a brass punch just to be on the safe side.
