RE: weird noise
its inside the gas tank.
its a circular piece of sheet metal that completely surrounds the fuel pump, keeping it constantly supplied with fuel and cooling it at the same time.
the baffles are VERY well known to break off (very small spot welds hold them on), in the process they bend the pump pickup and most of the time they smash the sending unit for the gauge to pieces.
you WILL need a new gas tank to fix this problem. you cannot re-weld it.
this problem can give different symptoms. most of the time, when your gas level is low enough, if you hit the gas hard in a straight line, or whip a right hand corner, the gas will literally move away from the pump for a brief moment. it will cause a "falling on its face" symptom, and then all of a sudden the car will rear up and go like a bat out of hell again.
sometimes it will kill the car all together, but you are able to fire it right back up and continue on your way.
almost always, you will hear it rolling around in the tank. it almost sounds like a bad control arm bushing knocking around.
