Default Tranny question.

Hey I have a friend who owns a 89' fox coupe. Pretty nice were in the process of building a 347cid. Its automatic and we know the new motor going to kill the trans fast..
The question I have is another one of my buddys has a built c4 trans he bought for his 289/302 carburated Ford Maverick. He bought it from race shop out here which built it to handle around 450+ tq. Since hes selling it EXTREMELY cheap I was wondering if I we could use a c4 trans instead of his standard aod trans?? Would the computer freak out, were still using the stock one. I think the blocks are the same but not 100% sure.. What would I need to swap it out? Would that be a good idea to use a c4?
Thanks a lot guys.

Default RE: Tranny question.

The C4 will work fine. It will bolt up and use the same driveshaft and crossmember as the AOD. However, the are 2 different size C4 bellhousings. A large one and a smaller one. The larger bellhousing will accept the AODs flexplate, which is a 164 tooth 50 oz. The smaller bellhousing C4 will require a 157 tooth 50oz flexplate. The larger bellhousings are more common, but id check to make sure thats what you have. If the C4 is already built, it will be perfect for your application. However, dont plan on taking it on the highway.....

+1

but you can however dump a gearset w/ the c4 w/ the newfound hp , the aod is a big power bandit but w/ no OD your 1:1

i think it's safe to say if you ran a 3.73 on an aod, you can go 3.55 on a c4 for similar performance...not optimum performance...but similar to aod

personnaly i like gear....i run 4.10's on my t5, i'd rather go slower on the "e" way than give up torque
