Coolant temp sensor placement??

Coolant temp sensor placement??
Kinda a dump topic right? Wrong... my question is where is the best place to put a CTS at? Because you can place them in the diff corners ofthe intake and get diff readings right? Say for instance I have the stock one in theleft front corner and it reads a good temp. But I have a mechanical in the right rear and its telling me she is hot. Like 210 at idle, 200-205 getting on it with a 180 thermo. But I am not worried becuse the temp comes right back down. I am thinking its because that sensor is like in a pocket and the water is kinda trapped there becuase it does not travel through the intake. Also the rear of a 302 is warmer than the front but I do not know by how many degrees? So Is my thinking correct or do I have a problem?

your thinking correct.
keep in mind that the fan is doing a little bit to cool the front of the motor down, and also the coldest stream of coolant goes through the front of the motor first.

ok i am getting somewhere fixing my problems then. PS I just bought a be cool rad what a nice piece. The best rad I have ever had my hands on. I am going to try something, if it works ill let ya ll know, if not no biggie. be back in a lil while.

RE: Coolant temp sensor placement??
ok well i just got done messing with the ride. What i did is bought some 1/4in id hose, 3/8 male to male fittinganda 3 way 3/8 t fitting. I took the stock fitting that goes in the manifold for the coolant to run throught the tb and stuck it in the top of the t fitting, then stuck the stock CTS sensor in the side and the male to male in the bottom of the t and into the intake. Then hooked up the tb so coolant runs through it. Well once that was a mod to make hp. but not really becasue i droped a lot of temp in the rear of the motor by hooking the tb coolant lines back up. like 20 degrees. something to think about guys.

I had a guy tell me they were useless, but I did not listen to him, I left mine attached and I am very glad I did. It is nice to see some real proof of this arguement finally.

RE: Coolant temp sensor placement??
ok so let me get this straight. you hooked up your tb lines to cycle coolant from the rear of the manifold to the front of the manifold and it drops total coolant temp by about 20 degrees? did that drop yoru total temp or is it just more efficient?
is this known as the "tb bypass" i've heard of this before i think

RE: Coolant temp sensor placement??
I think it dropped the temp from the rear of the motor 20 degrees, not the complete motor, as he mentioned that he place a temp probe in severeal spots around the motor. Tim mentioned the front of the motor was cooler in the beginning of the thread. Once he hooked up his coolant lines to the tb it made the back side of the motor cooler as well. That is what I got out of his information.
