i have 87 mustang GT that was a 4cyl and when i bought it the guy put in a 86 5L motor. woundering what years i cant usea ecu and the enginewiring harness. does it have to be a 87 5L or can it be a 88, 89, 90, 91, 92, 93. im looking to buy a ECU and engine Wiring Harness as a pair so just seeing if i can us them from other years?

I would think you would need an 88- engine unless he upgraded to mass air. If you put in an 89+ mass air computer it will look for those things (VSS, MAF sensor, etc) and not find them.. and definately won't run (Maybe at all?) if a MAF computer doesn't have a maf sensor. I also thought 86 ecu's were different than 87-88, butmaybe not. So yeah, if it's a stock pre89 engine, you need a pre 89 computer. Dsomething1, I believe they are called. just speed density.
