Default can't figure out where its leaking

My friend has an 89 lx 5.0 and it is leaking coolant. It is puddling up right under the theromostat. We have replaced the waterpump and the thermostat and both gaskets. And after all this it still is leaking somewhere and puddling up under the thermostat. We have run out of ideas so if anyone has any suggestions please post soon thanks

You may have the thermo installed a little off and have a slow leak.... You also need to make sure that you intake manifold gasket isnt leaking... If you have ever taken off the lower intake then you have to put silicone where the gaskets meet the front intake gasket to the head/intake gasket.... Your leak could also be the timing cover seeing as how the coolant flows through this and that gasket may need to be replaced... but uther then that there is nothing else around there that could be leaking unless the fan is blowing there from somewhere else.... You may want to check the hoses ( heater bypass, and radiator to housing hose) to see if they are tight or have formed a leak due to a crack of some sort.... Hope this helps....

Also make sure the thermostat housing doesn't have a hair line crack in it.I had a small crack in mine when I did my intake I noticed it.

my buddy said he saw some bubbles coming from where the timing cover and engine meet and wants to know how involved it is to replace the gasket

Well it is not to involved as in difficulty, but it is a long process... If you decide to do this you may want to check the timeing chain while your at it... You have to take the fron of the engine apart and pull the balancer... then you just pull the cover and there you go... It will take 1.5-2hrs or so.. Depending on things you run into and how fast you work...could be longer could be shorter... Not to difficult though...
