Tranny Swap AOD to T5
I am looking for a step-by-step way to do this. And what parts I would need exactly. I am able to do the mechanical work just need a little more info about parts..the car is an 88 GT..i know a lot of you will say just go buy a manual and sell the auto but this body is in decent shape and i wanna keep the t-tops..so any help would be greatly appreciated..Thanks Guys
Parts Needed.
Crossmember (Or modify current one)
Driveline with yoke
Shifter Boot
Pedal Assembly (Loaded with quadrant)
Clutch Kit
Clutch Cable
Speedo Gear
Computer modifications
Transmission Wiring modifications
etc, etc, etc.
Most people will tell you to buy the book because there is a lot involved. Best way is to find a wrecked or junk 5 Speed Fox as a doner.
The Following is oversimpified
Get the old one out and bolt the new one one to your motor with all of your clutch stuff (Pilot bearing, Clutch Disk, Pressure Plate, Clutch Release bearing, and Clutch Fork)
Remove auto Transmission Cooling lines. and Plug holes in radiator (Optional)
Remove shifter and lower boot.
Install Motor and Trans with New or modified crossmember and driveline. Install with shifter off.
Once you get it all back together. Install shifter
Then remove the the drivers seat and remove the pedal assembly.
Install the new pedal assembly.
Install the clutch cable. Check it and make sure it feel like it releases the clutch. You may have to relocate the speedo cable at this point. There should be a plug closer to the passengers side that you will need to put the cable into. and install the clutch cable in the old spot.
Fill the transmission with oil.
Remove the computer from the passengers side kick panel and install one for a standard (Or modify exsisting one. Not sure about the mod but someone on this forum will)
Check your stangs vitals. Bandage up your knuckles, Find all of your tools (Even the one you lodged into the walls in your garage) and test the finished product.
But first you probably should put the drives seat back in.
