Default TPS voltage question again!

ok iv read through a million posts on the theory of adjusting the tps voltage. and i cant seem to find a straight answer or what the final verdict is.

heres my take on it.

i have idle issues with my engine. ive done all the adjustments and cleanings that most people advise, however when i check the voltage of the tps sensor wires the red and green both read about 5.0 volts. or slightly more. i tried turning the sensor but nothing changes.

why would both wires read 5volts? or is it possible i have a bad sensor?

The .9999 vdc TPS adjustment is a myth, as long as the volatge is between .5 - 1.19 vdc (.7 - 1.0 vdc is optimum), the computer will do the rest. In your case, looks like that TPS is fubar'ed....... suggest to run a DIY KOEO/KOER/Cylinder Balance Self-Test to check the system though.

ok good info, ill read through it, do some tests and stang8689 ill keep you posted if i need it.

i hope i can do this, my car isnt exactly simple to work on. 67 fastback with 5.0 fuel injected motor with painless wireing harness tied into stock wiring. its like a huge jigsaw puzzle. especially i didnt put it together.

replace the sensor, it is a variable resistor, that should cut the 5.0 volts down to .99-1.03 volts, key on engine off.

positve -green wire negative black wire.

If a new one does the same, the ECM is shot.

... lets try the very short version then.

1. Having to set the TPS to .999 vdc is [sm=bs.gif] information.

2. If the TPS voltage is between .5 vdc and 1.19 vdc, and no TPS related failure codes are logged in the ECM = system is OK.

3. There is a computer in the EFI system that takes care of all the system sensors variability and filters their input.

4. In your case...... replace the sensor and recheck the system.
