tranny rebuild Q
i was given the original auto tranny for my stang when i bought it. the owner gave me a bill telling me that he spent 1200 bucks at a shop to get it rebuilt the auto tranny. now in the bell housing i do see a nice bright orange gasket i guess and it looks like something has been done with the tranny. how can i tell for sure if it has been rebiult

An MRI would just be expensive - mostly because once you got the tranny in the room it would smash itself into the magnet and they'd have to discharge it to get it back off. A fluoroscopy or really tiny endoscope might work though.

I'm just worried because I can't see where he lives. As funny as it would be, I don't want to lose my weekend because some fool stuck an AOD to an MRI machine at my hospital. I've seen them have to discharge the magnet because they stuck because they stuck wheelchairs and IV poles to them. At one facility they found out that those little black plastic Bic pens had just enough metal in the tip that you could let them go in the room and it would shoot through the center of the magnet and eventually hang in mid-air in the middle.

Take the oil pan off the tranny, it will be very obvious its been rebuilt, the gasket manufacturer's name will stick out like a sore thumb in bright white on the valve body gaskets, typically lentech
