I had the same problem yrs ago when I had my '83 w/T-Tops........ I had to special order tires through Sears (when they still worked automotive stuff). If you like showing the "originality" of your car, make sure you get a set of 390 tires, store them, and only use them for those special occasions. If you use the '83 regularly, I wouldn't play with safety..... get a second set of 15", 16" or 17" rims and tires and drive safe. Besides, if you alter those rims, and install a different size of tires...... "originality" goes kaput. Safety is more important.......IMHO.

ORIGINAL: ACE

You do know that you cannot weld Steel to alumium correct? Just getting that out unless they use some other material. If you did that and put on a 16 in tire, and went to a car show where the wheels mattered, then you would actually be deducted points for non original equipment. If your worried about keeping it original, then just spend the money and do it right.
I realized that before I wrote it but didn't think about it in my post. But could use aluminum just the same. Having the correct wheels would be more for me then anything else as I wouldn't win a show on originality since my car is not completely original.

Keep the TRX wheels for sure. If they are in very good shape, they need to be kept with the car so it is original (and for any show, you will need the 390's) Modifying the wheels will decrease their worth. I did check out your car domain web page and it does seem like you have another set for driving. (Good idea)

Do yo know for sure that the Coker are not good quality, or is it just e-say?

I have to agree with the other post here keep the TRX wheels for show and use a nice 15" or 16" for the daily driving. I have 2 I loaned out (wonder if I will see them again) That came on a 79 Cobra my son-n-law had. Wish someone made a 16x8 or 17x8 5 lug reproduction of those I'd buy them in a heart beat love the looks of those wheels.
