Grinding, shifting problems
Ok, i have an 83 Gt with T5 transmission. When i slow down to speeds lower than 20 mph, i cant shift into first gear right away because it will grind. Not even shifting at about 10 mph will prevent grinding, it has to be under 5mph to shift into 1st while driving. I dont think thats normal so whats the problem?

Most likely the synchronizer is worn or the clutch is not disengaging.
Shifting to first from a high speed is alot of work for the 1st gear synchronizer. If you do it alot. I'm not surprised it's worn.

i've had a problem with the self adjusting quadrant, you could get rid of that plastic one and get a new one, then tighten the cable so you know the clutch is disengaging. then again what you could need is a good rebuild, i just like going a less expensive route first then going to the heaftier priced option. either wat i still suggest getting a new aluminum quadrant and adjustable cable.

mine does the same thing. i have a new clutch, but im pretty confident that my synchros are worn a little bit, especially when the car is cold, i cant down shift 2-1 until im at a complete stop.
