shifting hard when cold engine
imn not sure if im just not thinking this through but im pretty sure my synchros are getting worn out a little bit. so its kinda hard to downshift 2-1 when going fast. but anyone know why when the engine is solid cold and i start up and drive away without letting it completely warm up, its impossible for me to downshift 2-1 unless im at a complete stop? it grinds sometime too, say its cold engine and im in 2nd coming to a stop sign, and i put it into first (say it goes into 1st that time) it grinds real bad.....only when its cold and i downshift 2-1, other that it wont let me go 2-1 gear when its cold.....synchros? something else? its fine when the car warms up

RE: shifting hard when cold engine
in any of the stick box vehicals i have ever owned first was a stop sign gear and i have run little 1.8L miatas that had junk for torque. But anyway it should be a little easier for you to drop it into first and any gear for that matter by matching your revs like you have to do in any large diesel truck. Its a good performance driving tool to have in your skill set too. Could also try and double clutching along with the rev matching but that won't do much unless your synchros are shot.

RE: shifting hard when cold engine
what do you mean by rev matching
and yea down shifting into first seems unnecessary unless you really need some new brakes, but double clutching does make a difference, when my transmission is in a bad mood (i swear my car pms's) i have to double clutch to down shift
