I think what adder is saying is when you hold the arming button down, then push in your clutch, the 2 step is on(2 switches). Once you let up off your clutch, the 2 stepcomes off(broke the circuit), then you can let up off you arming switch at your leasure before you shift. I can see it being more accurate because it accually eliminates an operation.....to go you have to lift the cluch, thus turning off the 2 step, then you aren't dealing with the reation time of lifting off a button at the same time. You would just have to be sure to let off the arming button before you shift. Make sense?

I have no degree in electric anything but that diagram is crap. It wont work as stated. The way to do it is with a two pole relay.

As a general idea, how wont it work? You would be creating a circuit, then breaking it...simple. I don't know how the 2 steps has to be wired, weather it is just a single wire that has to be broke, or whatever, that schematic that Adder drew would work, especially if you can make it work with a single push button like 8banger does.

It would release the 2 step when either switch in not held. Using the double pole, one presses the monentary switch with the clutch in to activate the 2 step. Then one can release the clutch and the2 step releases. I will not activate again until both the clutch and momentary switch are on together.
