First of all, I usually buy the cap and rotor set. When I bought the MSD cap and rotor with hold down, I bought the one that came with a rotor, so there was no question that it was the right one.

About your wires, 8mm should be fine. Stock was 7mm, so you're getting a whole extra mm, but once you start using MSD ignition stuff it'll be needed. But just be sure to cut all the wires to the right length. You don't want them to be too tight obviously, but you don't want a lot of slack either. The last thing you want is for your wires to touch your headers, and the resistance of wires is determined by the width and length, so the longer they are the more resistance. Getting them to the correct lengths will be optimum.

About your terminals, if a little of the exposed wire is past the crimp point, don't worry about it, just keep it to a minimum to prevent arcing or grounding out on something nearby, but by itself it shouldn't cause a problem.

Also, when doing this, don't neglect the penetrating oil for the spark plug threading. Also use silicon dielectric grease in the boots at EVERY boot, where it pops on the spark plug AND where it pops onto the distributor cap.

Lastly, the firing order should be 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8

I THINK, you can easily look this up online, any repair manual will say it, mine is at home and I am not at home right now. But anyway, the number one spot is marked on the stock cap, but not on the MSD cap, so locate the little marker notch on the outer rim, and line it up with where the tab is on where the cap goes, and then mark the relative terminal for the number 1 spot. Just in case you don't really understand what i meant about the tab thing. On the cap itself, there should be a MSD logo on it. On the Fords, that logo should be UPSIDE DOWN when the tab is lined up, so don't try to keep the logo straight. Don't worry though, the hold-down has the logo on it too, just try to get that as close to straight as possible, then it'll look good.

Anyway, once you hold the cap with the logo upside down, you should notice a little notch on the bottom rim, line that up to the little tab on the actual distributor. The cap would not go on if they are not lined up. Then keep it in that position and mark the corresponding terminal to the one marked with a "1" on your stock cap. That is the one that goes to the number 1 cylinder, and I believe the rotor spins counter-clockwise.

Oh, and the cylinder placement should be:

4 8
3 7
2 6
1 5
front

Hope this helps.

Hey!

I went on a shopping spree today lol. I bought me the right rotor, I bought a cool wire organizer that screws into the valve cover bolts and seperates the wires 1 by 1 and keeps them away from the headers, bought me a 9 inch red air intake, bought me ford racing valve covers, which I will be posting questions on later on another thread, lol, bought me the gaskets for em, got me the 8.5 wires =P, got the cap...got autolite 25's...and I bought a bunch of convulated tubing, I don't think i'll put any of the new stuff on until I've cleaned the car and changed alot of the convulated tubing cause I want it all to look very clean...thats where the new post comes in, hehe

But thanks alot for the help guys and the info =) it helped alot in making up my mind
