i have a 1990 manual trans lx and i have had this problem for a month or so.

so i have discovered a weird smell from the middle of my car coming up to my driver side. I look under the car and my cat is smoking. I think it might have to do with a leak in the tranny..but im not sure.. any ideas of where to start?

 

if your trans is leaking its probably dripping right onto the cat and burning off. fix the leak and youll be good

 

it could be anything leaking......could be from the p/s and or engine and even the tranny......as you dive the car down the road a leak that drips down will blow back and get on the exhaust.....best to get under it and see where your leaks are.....if no leaks are blowing back the suspect tranny as hackgt350 stated
