Is it necessary to swap computers also? I've heard there's a kit that includes everything necessary to achieve this. Anyone have any experience using this? I understand there's a great deal of info on here, but unfortunately the search function isn't working. The Google search bar has an option to search the website of the page you're currently viewing.

Yea, its best to change the computer form an aod ECU to a5 speedECU. I converted mine and it is prety simple.I got my ECU from a company called AMPPerformance. it wasnt that expensive and it was a quality part. you have to get an5 speedECU that is from your mustang year range (ie 87-89 or 90-93) that way it works with the other features the car has. if you are looking to save some money you can get an ECU later. the only difference between the aod/5 speed is the fule curve. the ECU is programed to match the gearing in the trans and being as the gearing betewwn the aod and 5 speed is a little different the fule curve will be a little different. so if you keep the aod ECU it will still run ok but i think its best to spent the money and get a 5 speed ECU
