Water Pump Direction
Ok here is the question.... I bought a 90 lx 5.0 5 spd. vert from a guy . the motor is rebuilt and now a 306. It runs hot not to boiling hot but hot he has installed an electric fan as well as havint the stock fan clutch during summer days it takes both running to keep the temp in check. I under stand that there are 2 types of pumps available reverse and standard rotation. my car should have the reverse correct?? also is there a way to tell if the new pump he put on is the correct flow without taking it all off? or if i do have to remove it what do i look for. i have found a couple of items that he took a couple of shortcuts on that i would not take. Thanks for the help guys Keep slammin and jammin............

RE: Water Pump Direction
As far as I know you will have to take the water pump off and look at the direction of the vanes to determine standard/reverse rotation. If you need the stock clutch fan and the electric fan to keep it cool, something up man. Hate to say, but you mentioned newly rebuilt, hope your head gaskets were installed right.

bada$$ looking fox man! Yea what bama said...there really isnt a way to tell without removing the water pump...you definitely have a problem if you need both to stay cool...my car only runs around 160, and that is just with a jegs high flow water pump, and the stock fan..i would check everything out just to be on the safe side and for piece of mind...are you familiar with water pump removal?

RE: Water Pump Direction
yeah no prob in removal just a pain in the azz. was hoping there was a visual appearance that could be done. the motor was built at a reputible shop so i would think that the head gaskets were installed correctly. thanks for the help guys.....

RE: Water Pump Direction
Didn't mean to imply your shop was a bad shop, but even if the gasket was maybe misaligned or something to block a water resevior on the heads. But if it runs hot like you say, maybe your shop can give you some info on the build, are you using under drive pullies? If so, it would slow down water pump, but not alot. Good luck with it, I had a hot running fox for about 6 months, replaced alot of stuff, and it was due to the timing being off. Whoever stuck the dist. was off.
