stupid IAC

stupid IAC
so I was messing with my idle today, and I unplugged the iac, and started the car, and thought "wait, its idling the same as it does with it plugged up". So I went under the hood and repeatedly plugged and unplugged the IAC, and sure enough, no change. So I'm guessing this means that I have to buy another IAC, which is like $50.
Would any harm be caused if I don't replace it???

RE: stupid IAC
I would think it would idle the same, it just has a screw type adjustment controlled by a motor , once you crank the car it goesto an open state determinedby the computer and if you unplug it would justsit where was till you plug it back up and would still be at the same place.
I'am sure that made no sense , but however unplugging and plugging back up while idlingisnt a test to see if the IAC motor is working.
Do a KOER self test and then see ifit can control the IAC motorif not it will spit a code out to you and it also wont finish the self test

RE: stupid IAC
all the iac does anyways is bypass air past the throttleplate when idling, if u didn't have a idling problem before, i wouldn't worry about it, it won't harm anything if u don't see a difference in the way it idles.

RE: stupid IAC
well before in my car, when i unplugged it, the RPMs dropped about 200 or so, and you could hear it. I did clean it today, and then noticed this. so i don't know. I'm going to put one of those throttle plates on there anyway
