Default Axle Swap

What is involved in doing an axle swap? As in what new parts besides the axles are necessary, ie. seals, retainer clips. I'm going to be putting in some five lug axles and I'm not sure what I will need to buy besides the axles and how difficult the job is as I've never worked on a rear-end before.

Thanks,
Brian

All you need is axles, 3 quarts of gear lube (takes 2.5) and friction modifier (one bottle for the positraction).

Unbolt the cover, drain the fluid, remove the bolt holding the differential pin in place and push in the axles and the c clips will fall out.
Installation is the reverse of removal.

Not a hard job at all.

You are doing the job on the 83? If so, IMO yes. They are likely original.

A good idea considering parts cost vs labor to do it later. You got everything apart so why not?
