I went on a road trip one time and had just replaced the alt and it went out and turns out when I took it out something was rattling around in there and looked as if something came loose internally and shorted out the alt.....brand new one too...like hackgt350 says "it happens"

It's the number 1 fuse. Controls the Stop/Harzard lights, speed control and hi mount stop lamp. As far as I know, they were all working.

What Hack said..... I've had to re-replace alternators after finding out the replacement was in worse conditions than the one it was replacing.

So since I'm changing my alternator, may as well upgrade right? What would be a better alternator? The one I have now is a stock replacement.

well you can perform a 3g swap..that's one idea and a popular one.....or if money is not to big a deal ..look online at the powermaster 140 amp upgrade single wire alt's..they are well worth the money and they are self exciting and all you have to do is unplug your old harness and not even use it...and on the powermaster single wire ones run the charge wire from the back of the alt over to the battery B+ or allways hot side of the starter selonoid

I disconnected my alternator and to change out, and I disconnected it, without really looking at the 2 single wires near the bottom. Does you guys know how those wires are suppose to connect? There's a 3 prong connector on the alternator and 2 single wires.

1. Which wire goes to the top
2. Which one goes to the bottom
3. Which prong connects what

I was thinking, perhaps it's not the alternator but a wire that's grounding out. I did just have my mechanic take out and put back my engine. Perhaps one of the wires is being grounded.
