Default gutting out cats

i was just wondering if gutting out the cats are a good idea or not. will it be cheaper than buying a catless x or h pipe? can someone do it in their garage or they have to take it to a shop?

Well not sure how to do it, but seeing that you are in Ca. how are you going to pass the Eminsions requirement? I would think that you would be better off buying a hi-flow cat x/h pip rather that trying to gut your stock one.

yea it depends on how much you planed on gutting your cats should decied what kind of mid pipe to get and when eminsions comes around if you want to change your mid pipe. If you dont want to change your mid pipe when eminsions comes around it would be better to do what diver8374 said going with a mid pipe with high flow cats youd get a noticeable difference in the sound and more hp but that depends on different factors like what else you are running on your car. The x or h pipe without cats will make your car alot louder depending on what exhaust your running and produce more hp but when smog comes around you gota change it and trust me its not fun so its up to you to pick
