I had a similar problem with my 89. I replaced the multifunction switch first but it didn't fix it. Went tocheck the headlamp switch and found that 3 or 4 wires on the bodyside plug were melted. Got a connector/pigtail from ford and spliced it in and it fixed the problem. Good place to check.

So, i have the same problem also but i've been driving with my highlights pulled all the way back. I went to O'reilly and asked for the headlight switch (the one where u engage the turn signals and highlights) and they looked at me crazy. Is there another name for it?
