I am not sure because I have never seen this happen but just have read about it.

Maybe your crank is "walking". Don't ask me how to troubleshoot that...I just read about it.

it dose it all the time, it is a automatic, i bought the car like it is i figured i could fix the problem easy but its becoming a pain in my ***, at idle like 650 it is smooth not really smooth but it is ok, at 900-1200 is really rough at 4grand it vibrates a good bit, but it smooths out as the rpms go higher but the vibration gets faster, it never goes away thoe

check the balancer, they are bad about slipping. the balancer is made of two metal pieces with rubber in between and sometimes the outer ring slips and knocks the balancer out of balance.

when mine slipped, it slipped foward, you could see the rubber sticking out. also if you know the timing you could put a light on it to see if the timing marks are off
