Default Rear end question

I'm getting ready to put in a detroit locker, and 31 spline alloy axles. Do i need to buy one of those ring and pinion rebuild kits or any kind of bearings?? (first timer on thisstuff) I have 3.73s right now. A buddy of mine has a set of 4.10s just sitting around. Would it be benificial to me to swap em or no? this is a weekend warrior so highway rpm doesnt bother me much.

sINCE YOU HAVE IT APART it's always a good idea to buy a rebuild kit with all new bearings and you'll need the crush collar and shim kit to properly set rear up

These 3.73s were installed about 8 months ago and the car hasnt been driven all winter. 3 months tops on the gears. We did a rebuild kit then. Still think that i should go ahead with the rebuild kit to be on the safe side or think i'll be good?

well in that case no rebuild is necessary but you'll need to be able to remove the carrier bearings without damaging.. for as much of a pain it is.. I just buy new carrier bearings so I don't have to risk damaging the ones trying to be removed....as for the pinion bearing it's easy to remove without damaging

What do you guys think about swaping in the 4.10s in for the 3.73s that are in there now?
