Default maf ?

i have some upgrades on my 93GT and i am in need of a larger maf. can i just switch my sesor into a larger housing, say from a later ford. i work at a parts store and iv noticed that all the fords have the same sensor base and that all i would have to do is swap sensors is this going to mess with the tuning and factory specs? thanks E.

The output of the sensor is calibrated to the housing it is used in.
In other words, you can't swap the sensor from housing to housing.

If you give us an idea of your mods, and future plans, then we can make a couple of suggestions.
There are aftermarket units that will work well, but there are a couple of Stock Ford meters that can work with certain setups.
It depends on the setup though...

Why couldn't he keep the same sensor? I thought the sensor was calibrated for your injectors, not the size of the housing?

I have thestock sensor and thestock sampling tube 19lb injectors, and bought a big housing.

With the sample tube you have you are using a C&L meter.
Aftermarket meters are 'calibrated' for use with an Injector and ecu.
(I don't like to use the word calibrated here, as the aftermarket grossly misuses the term)

No matter if it is aftermarket or a stock Ford unit...
Generally speaking, the sensors cannot be swapped from one housing to another.

Ford sensors are not "calibrated" to injectors....... they are calibrated to provide a voltage/airflow curve...... the "calibration/injector_size" is done in the ECM logic. If you increase or reduce the area of the housing ....airflow will be totally different..... the voltage curve will be different than the one the logic will associate for the correct fuel trim..... reason why you see the same sensor used in different housing sizes from the factory.

What the aftermarket does, when they sell a MAF "calibrated to bigger injectors" is lower the MAF transfer curve to "fool" the ECM logic and force a "leaner" A/F trim to compensate for the bigger injectors.... something like......

Which works to a point.......... anything bigger than 30#'ers would usually give problems at idle. BTSTDTRT.
