so i was driving my car and it all the sudden started sputterin and losing its power. still has some but nothing like it normally does and should. it seems like it wants to run good at times but keeps doing it. sounds different also. seems to be cuttin out pretty bad. any ideas what could be causing this? bad spark plug or wire maybe?

start off with the basics
Fuel,spark, is there a check engine light on,cap rotor,plugs see if there wet fuel or if there coated in suit,Tons of easy stuff you can do first, but if i had guess check your fuel filter...

 

I agree check the usual electric or spark culprits and then check your fuel filter. Depending on what year you have the mass air sensor could be the problem also.

 

how does it idle?? if it idles okay...run a fuel pressure test...may have a weak pump or restricted filter...if it idles rough then run a koer/cylinder balance test

 

Need a little more info before it can be narrowed down to 1 or 2 things. Need to figure out what's causing it to start, if it's related to heat, vibration, ect... but it could be tons of things.

Anyway...
Does it do it all the time now or just sometimes at random?
Does it do it only when the engine has been on for a while?
Does the sputtering stay there if you push the throttle down more?
