hey guys, my door handle broke almost completly off and I ordered a new set.
just curious, were do the rivets go that come in the kit? and how hard are they to swap out?
thanks in advance also if theirs any how to links or articles it would be greatly appreciated

 

the rivets go under the handle like if you look at the other door that still has the handle and you lift it up and look under there theirs two rivets.

 

First off, forget the rivets....there a pain to get completely tight + you'll need the right rivet gun. Go to hardware store and get some 1 inch phillips bolts w/ nuts and washers ($3). You'll be able to ge them real tight easily and you can take them off and on(like for paint job). I even pained the bolt heads black to match under handle. Oh yea, I just used a pretty big drill bit to drill out rivets, but watch out that you don't slip drill and go threw yer door lol.

I think the door handles have been replaced before because I have 2 allen head screws under the door handle. is there anything else that I will need to do to replace the handles other than take the door panel off and drill out the rivets if they are rivets and put a screw in there instead of the rivet?

 

I still cant see what the rivets do like they look like they just hold the plate on that hold the door handles on and theres just to rivets or screws under that, will the new handles from latemodel restoration have that plate also or do I take off the assembly and install the new handles on the old plate?

 

The door handle mounting plate mounts on the outside of car.

The new handles will have the plate where you insert bolts.
