exhaust questions?

Hey wat up guys. i had a 89 lx 5.0 5 speed (car is pretty much stock)and wanted to get a complete exhaust job done to my car. i was thinking something like maybe equal or unequal shorty headers, i was thinking of going with magnaflows however i noticed that not to many people have those on their 5.0. is their a particular reason for that?. i want something not too loud but definately want it to be heard. and i live in cali so it has to pass smog. any recomendations?

I have BBK Ceramic shorties, bassani catted X and flowmaster cat back.. Car sounds nice - loud enough for me and passes inspection here in Texas - not sure about your communist state though...
