Default Necessity of Boost Retard on S/C or....

Hey Guys, just got done putting a T-trim kit on my coupe.....had a question regarding boost retard module...should I run this thing, or can I avoid it and just have the tuner accomodate, and do away with the boost retard box alltogether.....reason I ask is because Vortech wants like $325 for it...just wondering if its a waste of money and can avoid buying one if tuner can do without it. I should at the sametime get rid of 30# and go 42's and loose the FMU as well....but thats later.

Current set up...Stock Block, 30#'s (with FMU I know gay), AFR 165's, FTI cam, TFS street intake.

Thanks!

How much boost? I run an MSD. I have 42's, no fmu and a custom burned multi tune chip from SCT. The reason I like mine is I can always pull timing out as needed as conditions change. Humidity, available octane. Things like that.

Hey whats up bud? Guna be runnin like 12psi...I really should loose the FMU altogether huh? Go with 42#'s, yeah I hear ya about the multi tune....the thing about this set up is its just a mild whatever type set up. So didnt want to get to involved in the tune. But figure hey might aswell since I have to spend 325 on the boost retard might as well spend500 on the chip/tune etc. I have a 331 build I'm doing but who knows when/if that will get finished.....

Thx!!

I would loose the 30's. I had them. It just never really ran that great. When I went to the 42's and a p-mas blow through mass air. After the tune the car never ran better. I run 12psi also. Once you're at a certain point, it becomes a necessity for a custom tune. There's a lot invested, do it right and make it last. My motor is still stock block heads and cam. Intake and bolt ons only. Once you jump to the 42's, you can't tune it w/ just timing and fuel.
