the 2nd time withcooling system
ok, now that I have my motor timed and running good, and have had the fun of driving her, with open headers, through the neighborhood once, its time to tear back into the motor and fix those small coolant leaks that I have. once from the waterneck, the waterpump and the rear of the intake manifold, and now I spy a small leak on the passenger side head, from the bolt at the bottom of piston #1, jeez! I used a gasket kit from carquest, a local parts store, to build the motor. This time I orderd up a FelPro kit with the gaskets I need. my question is how can I guarantee that I will not have to repeat this. RTV sealant? Silver paint? Coppergaskter sray? in the valleys of the manifold, I used RTV instead of the rubber gaskets, even went around the water ports. maybe this time I should do that with the rubber gaskets. sorry for the long post, but any advice on fixing these leaks would be great, I have terrible luck with water leaks, in the car and my home

You didn't use intake gaskets? Wow, you need to use gaskets ans use RTV around the water ports. As for the head gaskets...maybe you need to retorque the bolts after it warms up.

I didn't use them becouse in a article in MM&FF they said it was better to throw them out and use RTV, but I guess not since I seem to have a small leak in the rear one
oh, and I love your car, I see it and think its mine with quad lights, very cool, mine is the same red

RE: the 2nd time withcooling system
well I orderd up the FelPro kit from Summit for the entire engine. on my heads, like I said its just the bottom bolt on piston 1 that seems to be leaking, with my stock heads, I just get the engine to normal tep and then retorque the bolts in sequence? really think with will work? I will try, I hate water leaks, now the wife is telling me the sink is leaking in the kitchen
