Looking for any advice.

Here's my project. I'm putting an '83 5.0 in my 67. I'm taking off all the a/c and power steering which leaves me with 3 points to run a serpintine belt (alt/fan/crank). The problem is that year came with a reverse rotation water pump. I overlooked this and put on the correct (reverse rotation) pump and non-ribbed pulley which doesnt work with a 3 point setup. Now I either need to put on the ac eliminator bracket with the original tensioner. Or switch pumps and buy a ribbed fan pulley and fan. I think I may have to also try to mount my alternator lower so the belt has more contact with the fan pulley (which I don't know if I can do with my braket I already bought).I think the 3 point setup would look better than running an extra pulley to the tensioner which I dont think is even necessary.

I'm just figuring all this out and thought someone else had to have gone through this and might have some insight.

Whew...is anyone still reading this or understand my delema?

Please refrain from making the same thread in multiple sections. It is against our rules.

Thanks

lots of people do it. crank, water pump pully switch the side your alt is on and run an adj. arm for tension. if you want to see it in action here is a fellow member of ours

well i dont know what the problem is. regardless of what you take off the motor the belt should still run the same. since its a serpentine belt, just buy a smaller belt that bypasses all those points. but if im thinking right then you'll need a tensioner or at least an adjustable tensioner like fivepointohh said. but the belt drive will still be the same.

The stock setup runs the fan with the smooth side of the belt. If I do the 3 point setup then it will need a fan pulley with the grooves in it thus spinning it the opposite direction.

well then youll have to use a smaller belt and a tensioner of some sort. the belt should still run around the crank, go to the underside of the water pump pulley, over top of the tensioner and around the alternator and back to the crank. i promise if you do that itll work, if i could take a pic of my setup id put one on here, but thats how i have mine setup.
