I'm gonna go ahead and guess that the width of that rear would be too wide to go into a mustang.

well itll most likely need ot be shortened, new mouting tabs welded on, new axles becuase the bolt pattern is different on the trucks. what are your plans for performance? if there not too crazy, you shouldnt need it

well wait, if its only 3/4 of an inch per side, i could live with that or overcome it with backspacing a rim different... as far as welding new tabs i understand that...

but i OWN the 9 inch and it has 4.11's(or 4.56) and its 31 spline
i have in the stang now a stock 2.89 28 spline 8.8

if its just welding and getting some cheap 5 luggers, big deal really...

however my power goal isnt ridic, im looking at between 400 and 500 as my goal, though no where near it now...
im going to be doing a 351 swap either supercharged or natural...by the time i get power to the rear itll be in the 350 to 400 range, so do u think its not worth the weight... i'd be saving on gears and all (1000.00 for installation of gears in my parts)

hmm, figures, my BKO isnt on there, then again it was a factory option not standard...

ill have to measure it out against the 8.8 when i get the time...

is there any known reasons NOT to put the 9 inch in the car

i really dont think there is a draw back to this swap. i want to do it also but i heard it takes a welding gun to weldin on the rear control arms, something i dont have in my garage. to bad there isnt anyone here to help.

9 inch rears will bolt in. I'm not sure if all 9 inches wil but some do for sure. BUT they do cause tires to wear because of the geometry of the mount points and the car.
