Default D80E Block

Got a 78' 302 block and was wondering if its a decent usable block for a 347 kit...Block was free and looks very machinable.Standard Bore out of a 80k vech. Any thing I should look for as far as Known problems with these? Also anything out of the ordinary about this block that wont except certain other late 302 parts? Thanks

Those are good blocks.Still had the thick wall casting. That means about 15 lbs of meat extra in the mains than the later blocks.

Only drawback is it isnt a roller motor but thats only a conversion away.

only thing i can think of is the block you have is meant for a 2 pce rear main seal, whereas the later 5.0 block is a one piece seal block, just something to remember. good luck

oh and the main cap that holds the old fashioned rope seal has a small pin that MUST be removed before installing the new rear main seal or it will fail in short order! ask me how i know? ahh good times.

If you plan on using factory style Hyd roller lifters, etc you maybe better off spending a 100 dollars or less on a rebuildable roller block for a mild 347. Roller conversoins are expensive. In the grand scheme of things it will save you some money to be able to reuse much of what you have. Just a thought
