My 95 5.0 car has a problem
In neutral it sound great and you can climb all over it with no issues

but when you try to drive calmly down the road it coughs and jerks
and sometimes backfires out the exhaust. people stare, its not pretty

I have changed the ecu, dist. wires, plugs,maf, intake air sens, cap,rotor, tps,man temp sens.o2 sens,coil(tried new stock and msd) and many other things that I can't remember right now, pretty much every thing but the engine harness and the injectors

the car is stock except for the cam and exhaust(bbk long tubes,off road x-pipe, and jegs cat back).

The problem started when I hit a water puddle on the interstate during construction. It got progressively worse from there. when I changed the ECU it quit for a while then came back.

I was hoping someone on here has had the same problem and knows the cure

Start by running the KOEO/KOER self tests and LUK the results.

Like Joel said run the test, also have you check you timing?
