347 stroker - Need advice on ECU chips, engine management
Hello
I am working on my neighbor's '89 5.0 with some drivability issues.
Mods:
Probe forged 347 kit
Trick Flow top end kit (350hp kit)http://store.summitracing.com/partde...B&autoview=sku
upgraded BBK throttle body (70mm I think),
upgraded MAF
injectors (Ford Racing, Red)
MSD 6A with MSD coil and MSD distributor with OEM-style connector
According to my neighbor, he bought all these parts together and these parts are "matched" (they are supposed to work together without requiring a reprogram). He took it to some dyno and the guy told him he wouldn't need a chip and played with the ignition advance and fuel pressure (I think the guy just wanted a quick buck).
Personally, I don't think an ECU designed to run a 302 is going to properly run a 347 with a different volumetric efficiency but I am hoping I am wrong...
At WOT (open loop) it would seem the tweaks he did would be fine but at low RPM the car runs like ****
The car pulls VERY hard (380 WHP according to the dyno) but idle quality sucks and cruising at low RPM part throttle it starts bucking, above 2000-2500 it's ok. This feels like a nasty lean condition.
The EGR is blocked off but the CEL shows an EGR code.
The smog pump is removed
There are no coolant lines to the throttle body
I am unsure on how the PCV should be hooked up. One of his buddies with a 5.0 said the PCV was wrong hooked up the valve for us. It didn't make any difference in the way the car runs.
I have tried readjusting the idle speed according to instructions online
I have tried adjusting the ignition advance
Should I buy an ECU or chip for this setup?
Has anyone used this type of setup without a chip and had good results?
I wish he would have got a carburetor lol
Any advice would be appreciated!

one issue is the 302 trick flow kit on a 347?????? ouch= not matched at all for a 347.....either way it should still run just not with other 347's, make sure there are no vaccum leaks and the proper injectors and maf matched to them, have fuel, pressure dialed in and timing set properly.....as for egr code don't worry about it since you deleted it, but make sure no other codes are present LUK

hello again
mjr46 - what is a good intake/head/cam combo for a 347?
cheetha94607 - if the distributor is off by 1 tooth would advancing/retarding it correct this? Wouldn't it show up on the timing light?
AdderMk2 - can you recommend an online publication that goes in depth on how the EEC-IV works?
Thanks again to all
