A friend of mine is having a 347 stroker rebuilt. The engine came with 351w heads on it. Due to his budget he is considering staying with these heads and possibly having them ported/polished, vs aftermarket heads. Anyone know anything about 351w heads? How good are they and would this be a big mistake performance wise?

Many moons ago the 351 head was pretty much your only option as far as a performance head went for a small block ford. In todays world they suck and even ported will hold back a well built 347. you say "He is considering having them ported and polished" If he is going to have it done and if an experianced porter does it he is looking at 600-800 dollars to have them done right by the time the heads are all done.It's a waste of money given the vast outlet of aftermarket heads on the market. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken chit is the bottom line. They are crap

Yeah i agree with that id say get a good set of used heads you can pick a nice set up for like 500 bucks
