cigerret lighter problems before fire starts....
ok this maybe a kind dum post but need help before afire starts..... ok well today i replaced my cigerret lighter with a brandie new one:-D. well i pluged in my cell phone charger and it started to smoke so i pulled it out realy fast. i looked at my charger and the plastic on it was melting it was like as if the tab the hole heater element in place made a connection with it and started to melt it... do keep in mind i have the top of the center consol off to test... ok now i pluged it bac in to make sure it didnt hit a metal part (i dont see how this would have happend wen the whole thing was plastic except for the tip) and it worked fine left it pluged in for like 10-15 mins no problems. i now put everything back together and i smelled the plastic burning anf seen smoke this time thank go the fuse poped first.... y the hwll would this problem be caused? and to help u guys out a bit more wen i plug it in the first time i had it one way then the second i pluged it in, in a different way meaning like herizontal and vertical and wen i do it this way it would work fine but the other way it would start to heat up and melt the plastic... and what makes it even more werid is it will only happen on one side

we do a lot of work for State Farm on their corporate account and I can't tell you how many times I have seen the same car come in with the auxiliary power supply / cig fuse popped and or socket melted up , finally after 2-3 times of replacing the fuse I get the guy who normally drives the car to come in and I say where is the power consumer plug you normally plug into the socket, and reluctantly they always try and say oh no that's not the prob , that's when I say let me see it, so they hand it over and slam dunk I throw it in the trash, If I had a quarter for every time one of those POS power jacks becomes shorted I'd be rich get a new one and start from scratch cause most likely now you've screwed up the new lighter socket.
