i got this from stangnet.......hopefully it helps some for you
fwiw, this is how i do it, and it does indeed work.
look at the lifters in the lifter valley, watch to see which valves are closed, and on the base circle of the cam (not on a lobe, valve closed). set lash to zero up/down movement, turn another 1/4 turn, and cinche the locknut. you can do 2-4 valves before you have to rotate, double check, and your done. you get a feel for it....many say it's wrong, and ya gotta rotate the engine 16 times and kill yer back to adjust rockers, but i promise you, i have done it the hard way, and i have done it the easy way.....well over 20 times.... and i have never had a problem. i do set them pretty loose for the street at a quarter turn, but hey, it has always worked for me......

Well I followed the instructions from Crane and they did not work. I see what you are saying, and that sounds like it would work, but I am going to go ahead and take it to a shop and have them do it for me, because I have ripped the top end apart about 5 times this week and im tired of it! lol... Thanks though for the reply...
