Default Torque Boxes

How do they look? Are they acceptable? What should I do with them? I'm having SFCs installed and would like to know if I should address the torque boxes in any way as well - since the shop will be under there. Thanks!

Yours are still intact on the lower side but I am not seeing any pics of the upper ones. Its well worth the money to just go ahead and get the reinforcments and put them on. I just ordered mine today as a matter of fact. $79.90 shipped on ebay. 11 gauge steel with 8.8 grade hardware. I will weld mine in and add a few beads to the factory boxes but from what I understand the upper torque boxes are the weak link. Especially if you have poly bushings in the axle and in the U/L control arms because thats causes alot of excess strain.

weld your seams shut or or stitch weld them. driver side is the worst of the two IMO but they look fine. get pictures of your uppers though.

and +1^^ to the above, always a good idea to reinforce them if you plan on doing a lot of beating on it.

Crap - I didn't think to take pictures of the uppers I'll get some updated shots when the car is on a lift next week.

I'm still learning with this car. I only drove it twice and one of those times was in my driveway...lol.

Thanks for your help guys - it's much appreciated!

Thanks! I'm not positive about how many miles the car has on it. I'm pretty sure the body has over 100,000 miles and the 351W that was swapped in has about 60 - 70,000 miles on it.

The car was a red on red 4 cylinder and the previous owner restored it to a Porsche silver exterior with a dyed/painted black interior. For a 22 year old car, it's in pretty good shape.

Now I just have to learn how to work a manual transmission...

Just finished ordering UMI's upper and lower control arm reinforcement set. Came out to $132 shipped. You should look into it if you're going to strip race it with tires and a hard launch.
