help with selecting timing set and oil pump
im having issues finding a HV oil pump. im not lookin to spend a ton of money on it but i think it would be a good thing to have with the motor apart. can you post the summit link too
also my timing set is completely shot. i can almost touch the chains together its so loose. what should i get? and what does it mean when it says "use with 1 piece/2piece fuel pump eccentrics"?
also i have a comp cam xe270hr-14 cam. do i need something with more ability to be degreed such as this timing set
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...B&autoview=sku
or will this timing set be just fine?

M68HV I think is the pn for a Melling 302 high volume, that's what I'm running. And I went with a Comp timing set, double roller pre stretched chain, 3 keyway index. And I just installed the cam straight up.
The fuel pump eccentric is for the guys like me that run a mechanical fuel pump. There's an off center "wheel" on the cam gear that turns with the gear and as it "wobbles" around it works the fuel pump arm. Ford had 2 styles, a 1 piece, and the more preferred 2 piece, but if you're running an electric fuel pump, like with EFI, then you won't be needing the eccentric.

If Summit has theirs made in some crap factory in China and the Comp one is higher quality, then yes. But I have no idea where Summit makes their sets at. Timing sets are cheap enough that you can get a good one from Comp, Cloyes etc and not have to worry. Timing chain failure in a performance engine means valves go into the pistons, and maybe bent rods as well.

well i just decided to go with the comp one. the pricing was negligable and the description the comp one says pre stretched chain.
i did find the oil pump but im having a hell of a time finding a hardend oil pump shaft.

Don't worry about Summit chain sets. They are Crane and are quite good quality. If you really want to virtually get rid of timing chain stretch. Take the chain and put in in a pan of oil and heat it up to 200 degrees for about an hour. When you pull it out 50,000 miles later it will still be about as tight as new. I never skip this step on performance engines.
