Default Track Gears

Last night I was talking with a friend of mine who use to own a 5.0 now owns a galant VR-4. He was trying to tell me that 456's are sick gears for 1/4. I said no way you will run out of gear, and then he said "all the serious mustang drag racers use those gears, they figure everything out perfectly". I dont agree at all and think hes clueless. Id say 373's-410's are good gears, anything more is to steep. What do you guys think?

Depends on the setup, how fast you trap... what size tires, etc. Theirs no magic gear, depends on what your doing. Ideally you wanna be as close to redline in 4th gear, or 3rd in an auto, as possible when you cross the traps. Obviously the more power you make the less gear you want... and the taller the tire the more gear you want.

[sm=icon_ladiesman.gif] Yup, I had 4.88's in one my cars and it was perfect, but like MD said, it's all about the set up. IMO 4.10's are a great everyday street car gear.
