Loss of power - poor acceleration
I have an 89 mustang GT. Recently the acceleration power has decreased. It will still spin the tires at first, but it won't throw me back in my seat as it's taking off once it gets traction. It doesn't sound any different, it still screams while accelerating; just not a lot of power. A few times I would hold the gas peddle steady while going about 55 in 4th gear, and after a few seconds the power would come back, pushing me into my seat (but I didn't push the gas any harder).
I was told it could be my fuel pump, but I really doubt that would be it since the RPM shoots up 6-7 like it always has. I'm thinking the clutch is slipping, but it has a 3-4 month old king cobra clutch in it.
Does anybody have any ideas on what the problem could be before I replace the clutch? Thank you.

Oh and I'm starting to think maybe the clutch isn't slipping. If I put in 5th while doing about 20mph and hit the gas, the RMP doesn't shoot up. Wouldn't the RPM quickly shoot up as if it were in neutral if the clutch were slipping? Or am I completely wrong on that one?

I have seen cars get slower over a night of runs because of a clutch. (Mine quit grabbing on first test run after adding the blower)
You can try getting the clutch hot and see if the car slows down and slips more.
(course a lot of clutches quit working anyway when they get really hot. . .not sure on the knig cobra)
