Need suggestions. 347 stroker, replacing breaking e7's in upcoming month or two..

well i suggest you run only 93 octane and stock timing until you figure the detonation out. also a head install is really easy to do btw. you just need a socket set, screwdriver, razorblade, torque wrench, and gaskets.

swaping the head's is NOT hard. as long as your dad or someone has the tool's you can do it yourself.

If i where you i would drop your base timing down to 10* and keep running 91 octane, forget that octane booster junk, a waste if you ask me.

you could also get some colder plug's too.

idk, sounds like something funky is going on.

Nope.... no need to buy a code reader..... a test light and a paper clip will do. I did provide the link for the codes by mistake, but this one explains the procedure to scan the system. LUK

Yeah, the next thing Im going to try is a new set of spark plugs (although mine are fairly new..) also about the heads I might see if my, soon to be brother in law, will help (hes very car savvy, is building an old ford truck and had a trans am) as idk if my dad would help with that but who knows.. also the octane booster stuff doesnt help much so u guys are right on that, definitely a $8-10 waste.

I changed the plug wires to a nice set of beldons, it seems to run a little smoother but the noise/surging idle is still there. Im gonna go see a movie with my girl right now but tomorrow I may look into a set of plugs just to give that a shot. Ill be sure to post then, also ill check out that link. Thanks again everyone who is giving me help! I really appreciate it. Check in with yall tomorrow.

Have a good night.

This thread confuses me.

1) The problem is more than likely not the heads.
2) Have you though about cleaning the IAT ? Doing a base Idle reset ?

I just think you are not spending the time to diagnose this and want to just throw parts at it until you get lucky, which could and will get expensive fast.

As Joel noted, there are many ford engines like the 351W that uses heads that are similar to the E7's. They do not have any issues.

You could have a vacuum leak as well.
