O2 Sensors

O2 Sensors
How important are O2 sensors to have and have plugged in, in a '94 GT? I deleted the smog pump assembly and used an EGR block off plate. I just installed a new engine w/ long tubes and the driver side O2 sensor wont reach so I left it unplugged.
I didnt know if it would make much of a difference or not but the car isnt running 100% so im troubleshooting and thats the only thing thats holding me up!
What do you guys think?

The system needs both inputs (not just one, as it looks like you currently have it set) to allow the ECM to learn from their A/F feedback....... or none at all. This last one will cause the system not to "learn" and base A/F control off the base A/F and spark advance tables.

The Passenger side O2 sensor is SUPER close to the transmission pan and i had to slightly bend it to clear. Do they make shorter ones?
Where can I get the plug extenders? The actual O2 sensors are really old, maybe even stock. Should I get new ones and install them?
I want to get the car dyno tuned and I want to make sure its 100% before i bring it there..
Thanks for the help guys.

I am not going to, since I already bought new ones. The tuner that done my chip Saturday said that O2s aren't used in WOT situations.
He did recommend I get new ones before I had the tune done though.
I am going to get rid of all that egr and smog crap though.

i'd suggest getting new ones, and getting the extenders. i would not reccommend deleting them. but.
as far as it hitting the trans pan, buy new ones and put them in where they are, then when you get it tuned, hopefully they weld on an o2 bung for their wideband, then they plug the hole when its done being tuned. so when you leave there pull out the plug and switch the o2's so it doesn't hit the pan, then plug the stock location hole, thats what i'd do.
