Default Broken door handle

so my door handle broke for the second time since ive owned the car... the first time i replaced it i couldn't get the two rivets out of the bracket that holds the actual handle on... this time i think i should just replace the whole thing since the bracket is a little bent. Is there any good way to get those rivets out? last time i tried i spend at least a couple hours trying to get them out to no avail...

I'm pretty sure you can just drill them out. Start with a pilot hole and then go to a larger bit.

Here is a writeup. But to me its much safer to drill them out then punch them out.

yes the rivets are drilled out, www.50resto.com has a door handle kit they are all metal unlike the stock ones that break because they are made out of plastic. i just installed 2 new ones on my vert. you will need a big rivet gun to install the new rivets(some people use nuts and bolts) but iirc 50resto sells the rivet gun also for 20$ and it will come in handy you need the big gun for things like bumper cover replacement etc

i was not aware that i would need a rivet gun to replace a bumper cover... I am planning on putting on a 93 cobra bumper... at what point would i need a rivet gun for that?

the 93 bumper is the same as the stock GT, but with an insert bonded on(a lot of guys choose to mold it in)
if you want a new cover you will need one of the large rivet guns to install the cover to the headlight panel

when installing the rivets for the door handle make sure to put some tape to keep you from scratching the paint once it pops loose

the rivet gun you need is part number LRS-41291 $24.95
the door handle set is LRS-22404K $18.95 cent for the black all metal handles
both at www.50resto.com

If you have a Harbor Freight store nearby, that exact same rivet gun can be had for $12.

Not sure if this is Kosher here or not, but I did a write-up with some pics on another forum when I replaced mine. You can read it HERE:

I drilled out the old rivets BTW.
