Rebuild or New Motor?

Rebuild or New Motor?
I have my 91 GT and it has about 145,000 miles on it. I want to mod the motor a bit but would like to either rebuild it or replace it first, but I'm kinda strapped for cash. I am currently attending college, and won't be out for another 10 years or so (college then med. school), and am always semi short on money. Anyways, I only want the motor to be able to handle about 350hp or so, so I figured rebuilding it now and then replacing later when I get out of school would be best. My question is, in my situation what do you think would be the best option? I could probably come up with the money for the new motor after a year or so, but don't think I really need to do that at the moment. Or do you think otherwise?
Plus, if you think I should rebuild it, what kit should I use and could you offer some sort of link... How much do you think a avg. shop would charge to install it.
Thanks.

RE: Rebuild or New Motor?
For a stocker, a cheap remanufactured long block from Autozone or the like may be the answer. For more than stock but less than all out performance, rebuild what you got. It will cost less. All out requires a better block, heads, etc...and mucho dinero.

Yeah I plan on replacing the heads, cam, etc. but don't know if it would be o.k. to just rebuild with the miles that I have and then do the work, or just buy a new motor. What do you think?

well why not just start buying hipo pieces when you can afford it... when you have all your pieces just buy another block and put it together at your pace while you enjoy the car..this way the car will be down a few days
