I know the crank bolt will be really tight..My buddy has an impact gun but I don't want to take a chance of breaking the bolt..Any good strategies in removing the crank bolt without the use of an impact gun? Or will it be ok using an impact gun on the bolt? I have a manual trans and what gear do I put the car into when removing the bolt?

if the bolt is tight enough, and the gun is strong enough, to where it will actually spin the motor and engage the trans, you got more issues than you know.

just hit it with a gun, it'll spin right out.

The car is at my brothers apartment parking lot about a mile away from me. I have not driven the car since I found the balancer rubber hanging out. I want to drive it to my garage which is about a mile away. From looking at the pic of my balancer, would it be ok to drive it about a mile?

you wont break the bolt using an impact to take it out. but to put the new balancer on you should use a balancer installer because if you just use the bolt to put it on you run the risk of pulling the threads out of the crank itself. and if that happens you are screwed. i think you can rent an installer at like checker or auto zone.

It's a really thick bolt, so I wouldn't worry about breaking it. I even have a thicker aluminum radiator and all i had to do was pull my fan, which is electric but even so, you should beable to just pulls your fan and shroud and have enough room to get a puller and impact in there.

You shouldn't be worried about a little rubber hanging out of the balancer to drive it one mile. You'd be amazed at probably how many vehicles are much worse.

adder, why no loctite? Just easy removal for later? I used it on mine and it came back out fine. I know there's reason but wasn't sure what.

I'm NOT Adder but here is the reason for no Locktite type stuff on the crank bolt...........
Anytime you have a fastner that you'll want a good torque reading on you want no Locktite stuff there. The stuff starts to set up quickly and you can't get honest torque readings with it...........
