Unhappy transmission problem

Recently I was being an idiot and switched gears without the clutch (i do it sometimes and it doesn't cause a problem), but this time i heard a "thunk" noise and ever since then i have noticed that in any gear above 1 there is a transmission loss. The rpm goes up pretty fast when i accelerate rapidly and it takes the engine a while to catch up. Any suggestions on where to start with this problem?
Thanks,
Jason

sounds to me like a slipping clutch. You probably just need a new clutch.

a clutch could cause the transmission to not catch up to the engine revs? hmm. that does make sense. how much does a clutch rework cost by chance on average?
thanks,
jason

ok, so here is the dilemma.
I'm getting a new 331 carb engine for my car and i want to take care of all these problems in one fail swoop. Does a 331 have a different size flywheel than a stock 302? I'm just curious because the person i was buying the engine from said that the car would need a new flywheel.
Thanks,
Jason

how do you even shift without the clutch if i dont hit the clutch my car doesnt go into any gear and would that stiffness just be from being a newer tranny in mine or just the short throw dont mean to take over your post jw

shifting without a clutch is powershifting not good for trannys at all IMHO. a 331 is a worked 302 it would bolt right up but 331 is probably balanced different so ud need a matching flywheel i think. but when you do a clutch you should cut or replace the flywheel or else youl be doing a clutch job really soon again.
