Default Torque box, PLEASE HELP!

I have an 89' 5.0 stang, and I recently had a mechanic bring to attention to me that the rearend seemed to drift a little on its own. So he put it up in the air, and was looking at it, he found an area where the lower control arms bolt up that was cracked up pretty good on both side. I believe this is the torque box.. is that correct?

Can that be fixed in anyway or is this part of the uni-body and now I have a junker?

If so I have a lot of parts for sale. And would make me sad!

Can anyone help me?

Thanks!

You think the reinforcement plate will hold up all alone? The actual box doesnt need to be replaced of fixed in anyway? I just dont want to have a nice hole shot one time and have my rear wheels go sideways!

to put in the supports would I need to take the subframe connectors off?

Thanks for the help, my mechanic is telling me my baby is junk so I am trying to get the bottom of this!

It may be easier and better to have the old boxes cut out Battle Box's welded in. Won't be cheap, but will hold up to anything. Check out Street Stuff Hot Rod Shop.

You don't cut out the old tourqe box's with the battle box kit,it just reinforce's the factory torque box and they also have a upper and lower kit which is the best way to go im my opion since the upper torque box's are weak also.
